How do you envision your camp being green and sustainable?

What are you going to do to be sustainable at/to/from BRC in 2007 with your camp, in the camp's art projects, in transportation, etc.? Taking "green" into consideration means thinking about the effect each of your decisions has on the environment and choosing the least harmful option.

Things to take into consideration include the type and the materials being used, energy consumed, and waste produced. For example if you need to use wood for your project try to use scrap lumber rather than new and if you must buy new then buy wood that was sustainably harvested. Also you can build your project so the wood can be reused afterwards rather than being burned or thrown away.

How we will plan to be sustainable

Camp Name: Camp Tissue and a Plan

Our green leadership and structure:

We hereby designate Kelly Revak as our lead Green Guru, who will ensure that our camp and campers understand the 6 Rs (Respect, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Restore). She/he will also take part in planning our purchases and encourage us to reuse materials, recycle materials and reduce what we bring.

She will investigate our power needs. She/he will see that all camp members understand and agree with the policies and practices of Leave No Trace (LNT) at Burning Man and understand our camp's LNT plan.

She will oversee daily tasks and will have a plan in place when we get ready to leave. When it's time to break down and sweep our camp for every last trace. She/he or a designated Captain will make sure EVERYTHING left goes with us.

Our Commitment to Greening the Man

Here's how we'll do it

Energy

Plan to reduce energy use and incorporate energy efficient practices: We will use solar energy to recharge batteries that will provide the majority of our energy needs. Our camp will be cooled using a custom swamp cooler which uses a minimal amount of energy and serves dual purposes of evaporating gray water and cooling the interior of the shade structure.

Plan to use alternative energy sources energies (human, solar, wind, biodiesel) and/or offset carbon emissions associated with transportation and energy(generators):

We will primarily use solar energy. The exception to this will be for transportation and the Dance or Die event. We will use a diesel generator to supply power for this event. We will illuminate our camp with energy efficient light bulbs, LED's or EL wire.

Materials

Select materials and decorations for our camp that lessen waste and are recyclable or reusable:

The majority of our camp will be constructed from recyclable materials. Our shade structure will use several salvaged components. We also plan to use nontoxic, biodegradable, and salvageable materials.Ê The "tissues" we will give out throughout the week will be 100% recycled material and we will stress the importance of proper disposal to burners that acccept tissues.

Waste

With the exception of minimal food waste, we plan on salvaging, reusing, and/or recycling everything onsite, including camp construction and demolition waste.

Community Service

In keeping with our theme of providing tissues and plans to burners in need of such, we will provide plans that promote matter out of place removal as well as places to put tissues and other recyclables after use.

This is just some filler, 'cause I can't quite figure out how to do CSS properly, you know?
